ARTS DAY - Feb. 3

Meet NYS ARTS at Arts Day Headquarters on the Third Floor Terrace in the Legislative Office Building (LOB) at 9 am on Feb. 3.

Make your voice heard in Albany to protect arts funding for 2009-10. This is OUR chance to influence the NYS budget and protect arts funding in your community.

No one can afford to sit on the sidelines. In today's economy and during tough budget negotiations, we must all take part in supporting the NYSCA budget and protecting arts funding.

Whether you are new to Arts Day or a seasoned veteran of our advocacy efforts at the capitol, after your legislative meetings, come to the New York State Museum for an Arts Day Reception from 5 - 7pm.

NYS ARTS provides a headquarters where you can coordinate meeting times and pick up your handouts and buttons. We will provide:

• Advocacy briefing sessions on the budget & funding.  How to make the most effective case for NYSCA funding.

• Information on the history of the State's allocations to NYSCA and the status of the current budget proposals for arts funding.

• Materials for the lawmakers and their staff, which clearly explains the impact of the arts in communities.

• Forum to meet and network with colleagues.

• Tips & Tools to make the most of your legislative meetings.

• And Buttons to wear and leave with lawmakers reminding them of the value of the arts.

Arts Day Reception at the NY State Museum

After your legislative meetings, join the Arts Day reception at the New York State Museum. 5pm - 7pm During our Arts Day reception, celebrate the opening of the wonderful Rockwell Kent exhibit on loan from the Plattsburgh Museum. With a contribution of just $5 you can ensure that NYS ARTS continues to advocate and work with, and for you, to protect and maintain our healthy arts communities. In today's economy each one of us must act. Each one of us must take part in building and supporting our network.  When the Governor proposed eliminating the remainder of this years Arts budget, NYS ARTS mobilized a major email campaign fighting to save and restore the current State Arts Council budget. We reached out to artists and art organizations around the state. In response, YOU did an incredible job shaping our campaign and making our voices heard in Albany because YOU made our advocacy message go VIRAL. In less then 72 hours we sent more then 14,000 emails to the Governor and Legislators fighting to keep our Arts safe.  We now have 18,600 online advocates who can generate a powerful impact in Albany.  If each of you who sent an email to Albany contributes just $5 we would raise $24,000 towards our fight to ensure our voices are heard and heard loudly. We will use that money to accelerate our online campaigns, grow our social networks and media links, convene regional advocacy meetings, and create a powerful Arts Day in Albany on February 3. The reason NYS ARTS has been able to be such a strong advocate for the arts is through the help and support of friends like you.  You know, better then most, how vital the Arts are to our communities.   NYS ARTS needs your help now more then ever.  Before the end of this year.    Contribute just $5 to help make our voices heard in Albany and protect arts funding in New York State.
